Disinfect wetsuit without ruining it

Post by WrappedInSilver » Fri Jan 04, 2013 3:26 pm

Hey there

So I went swimming in the lake last summer and autumn quite a lot. It's an 8km bike ride to get there, then at least an hour in the water, some playing afterwards  and then 8km back. Turns out now that I might have developed a fungus or some other skin irritation from the long exposure to water. To avoid a reinfection I'd like to properly clean the suit before I put it on again.

Can anyone give me a tip on how to properly clean the suit from spores, bacteria and the likes (Perhaps a special detergent or chemical, or even a household remedy)? I can imagine that the suit wouldn't survive the washing machine in one piece (the zipper is already starting to detach, I'll have to get a good glue for that), let alone at 60°C.

Thanks and belatedly a happy suit year.
